Night Train to Lisbon! Such fun to have our own cabin with fold-down beds. We got to watch the Basque countryside slide by, sprinkled with glimpses of farms and valleys, terracotta towns and huffing factories, snapshot of teenage girls off their bikes, plotting next to the railroad tracks.
The sun faded and we nestled into our bunks, listening to rumble of the wheels on the tracks and drifted into dreams.
It was twelve hours from San Sebastian to Lisbon, perfect for the trip.
Notes to those planning: avoid the cabin nearest the bathroom, as the noise of the door and flush will interrupt your sleep.
