As you may know, I’ve been experimenting with text messaging services, so I thought it would be fun to set up a "broadcast" text message service that would let us send messages to people back home from wherever we are when we’re doing something exciting. For example, wouldn’t it be cool to have your phone buzz and get a message from us that said
Watching the sunset from the top of the Eiffel Tower. Thinking of you all.
You, in turn, can send back messages to us (only we’ll receive them, not everyone else signed up), and it’s all free for you (except whatever it normally costs you to send or receive text messages locally…usually around $.10 / message).
Anyway, if you want to try it out, just send the following text message to 206 694 9197:
.join hm
A few notes:
- This is a broadcast-only group, so you won’t see eachother’s messages to us, just our messages to you (and we’ll see the messages you send to us). In that way, it’s different than Slam, Hepcats, Swaggle, DV8, Flo, UPOC, etc.
- If you’re already a member of other Swaggle groups, remember you need to include the "hm: " at the beginning of your messages to us (e.g., "hm: Eating french toast"). The "hm" stands for Hive Mind.
